We’ve previously written about the benefit of sharing your videos on social media and a survey of marketers in 2023 has compiled data that shares insight into the best time to post. Of course, it varies according to the platform being used, the audience being reached and the content itself, however, here are some useful general guidelines for optimal posting times on popular social media platforms:

  • Instagram – on average the best times to post are afternoons and evenings between 12pm and 9pm. The worst times to post are between 6am and noon. Thes best day to post is Saturday, the worst is Monday.
  • Facebook – the times to post are the same as those on Instagram with Friday and Saturday being the best days and Sunday the worst. There is a caveat – posts by government and non-profits tend to have success when posted in the morning.
  • X (formerly Twitter) – 23% of marketers surveyed say the morning is the best time to post with Wednesdays and Fridays being the best days. Early morning between 6am and 9am is linked to low performance.
  • LinkedIn – Almost 50% of marketers say posting between 9am and 3pm is the optimum time with Monday, Wednesday and Tuesday (in that order) the best days. The lowest performing days are, unsurprisingly for a professional network, Sunday and Saturday respectively.
  • Pinterest – if your audience can be found on Pinterest, a third of marketers recommend posting between 3pm and 6pm on Fridays.
  • YouTube – Posting between 6pm and 9pm was only slightly preferred to 3pm to 6pm with Friday or Saturday being recognised as the best days to post. Tuesdays or early in the morning (6am-9am) are not considered optimum times to post.
  • TikTok – Much like Instagram and Facebook, the best times to post are 6pm to 9pm, 3pm to 6pm and 12pm to 3pm, with Friday being the best day to post and Monday or Tuesday the worst.

This is just one study, and a general one, so optimum times may vary for particular audiences or industries. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on the analytics to understand how your posts are performing and also when your audience is most active.

Experiment with posting at different times and days to see when you get the most engagement and remember the time zones of your audience. Once the best times for your business have been identified, try to maintain a consistent posting schedule so users know to look out for your content.
