Facebook Reels are engaging

Since Facebook released Reels to the entire world in Feb 2022 they are quickly picking up momentum as a must watch format. Having seen the success of these short form vertical videos on Instagram, Meta decided that it was worth pushing them out on Facebook directly.

Previously you were able to share your Instagram reels onto Facebook, but the engagement was not great. By making the Reels directly postable within Facebook the engagement has significantly improved.

Of course there is no hiding the fact that reels are a direct competitor to TikTok, but if your audience is hanging around on Facebook, then being able to post reels there is ideal.

Typically they can be viewed by anyone on Facebook so you are able to reach a much wider audience. The more entertaining your reel, the more likely it will be watched and shared and commented upon. All of which is good for your video and ultimately your strategy.

Reels are being used by influencers, want-to-be influencers and brands that recognise the potential for this form of engagement. 

Facebook advises the following to get the best engagement with your reels.

  • Entertain your audience with relatable and engaging content that grabs attention.
  • Inspire and start a trend that others can easily participate in.
  • Use creative tools like text, filters or camera effects.
  • Use vertical video and avoid horizontal videos that are typically not as easy to recreate.
  • Use music from the Facebook music library and/or original audio you create or find on Reels.
  • Be experimental or new and try different approaches to see what works for you.
  • Clearly showcase your content using good lighting and shooting techniques.
