Video brochures – for when your video must be seen

The days of the DVD are dead. Whenever I have a client ask me a DVD I ask them what for? Have you run out of coasters? Who has a DVD drive built into their computer these days? Who can be bothered to take a DVD home to load into their DVD player and interrupt the family viewing so they can watch your promotional video?

It just doesn’t happen. We expect to be able to click and watch our content immediately.

But what if the person you want to see your video doesn’t get your email? What if you are just seen to be another pushy sales person? How do you get your video to someone who will actually see it?

LCD Video brochureThis is where video LCD brochures can grab the attention of your ideal viewer. Imagine receiving a beautifully designed and printed package in the mail. It is a centimetre thick. It looks and feels valuable.

When you open it a video starts to play on the LCD screen that is built into the package. Your ideal viewer has the video you have been trying to get in front of them.

And it’s not as expensive as you might think. We’re talking 10’s not 100’s of dollars for the video LCD brochure.

As someone who makes videos, I like this concept. Although our business is in the production of engaging videos that deliver compelling messages, that achieves little if the videos aren’t seen by the right people. These LCD brochures put your videos in the hands of your target viewer.

They work for a few of reasons:

  1. How often to do you receive quality physical mail these days? Compared to emails, direct mail is now in the range of 1:5,000. So it stands out.
  2. It is a quality product. When done well, the design will look great and it will highlight your key points while they view the video.
  3. You can’t throw it out – well not at first. When I receive something that looks and feels valuable I struggle to dismiss it and throw it in the bin. At least I’m going to look at it. Direct mail lasts longer.
  4. They are not prolific. The video LCD brochures still have a novelty value to them. We don’t see them everyday. They are likely to be shared around the office for their fun factor.
